Brook Farm Animal Sanctuary
There is no place quite like home, and just like us, animals deserve an equally warm and welcoming place to call their own. In the same way that we enjoy being surrounded by our families and friends, animals do too. Mother and daughter cows, left alone, would graze alongside one another for their entire lives; while in the wild, pigs remain in close-knit groups, known as sounders, with those in captivity maintaining this behaviour. Just as we adore our loved ones, they adore theirs. Wanting to give them a place to live and socialise peacefully seems only natural, particularly as many have been rescued from the dairy and meat industries, and there are a number of wonderful vegan animal sanctuaries across the UK doing just that. While any organisation caring for animals is doing a great service, the work being done by vegan-run sanctuaries arguably sets the precedent for how animal sanctuaries should be operated universally. To rescue one animal and eat another is a paradox. By having animal sanctuaries as a whole operated with a vegan outlook, we could rest assured that the health and happiness of the animals would be placed unwaveringly at the heart — just as it should be. Here are some vegan sanctuaries doing their best to ensure that all animals, big or small, young or old, live out their days knowing that they are loved.
