English golfer Tony Jacklin not only made headlines by winning the British Open in 1969, but he also set a new record of 356 feet that same year when he launched a drive from atop the Savoy Hotel and across the River Thames in London. The feat had been done before, including by Walter Hagen and Jack Nicklaus, but nobody had driven a golf ball across the river farther than Jacklin.
