ALL HAIL NICKY SPINKS
WWW.INOV-8.COM / SUMMIT FEVER MEDIA
For a second year running, no one has completed all five laps of the arduous 2019 Barkley Marathons. British endurance runner and all-round hero Nicky Spinks was on the starting line of this extreme race, and completed a full loop before dropping out partway through the second.
Made up of five 20-mile loops in Frozen Head State Park in Wartburg, Tennessee, the one-ofa- kind race sees runners self-navigate round an unmarked course, with a total elevation gain equivalent to climbing Mount Everest twice.
The awe-inspiring 51-year-old inov-8 ambassador was one of the last two remaining women. Nicky said of her experience: “The Barkley Marathons was extremely tough, in many ways. The first lap was run in really hot conditions, too hot for my liking, and then the second lap was the opposite, unbelievably cold with lots of rain… I don’t think I’ve ever felt that cold.” But would she ever attemnpt it again? “I do think that to finish Barkley Marathons, you need to go back a second or third time to do so…” We think that means: watch this space! www.inov-8.com
