Hannah and Charles Finch share a common interest in buying and renovating houses. They like nothing better than taking on a property no one else wants and turning it into something really special, but their latest project, which Hannah refers to as ‘a hideous 1950s box that had been standing empty for ten years,’ was perhaps their greatest challenge yet.
Working from home is ideal for building designer, Hannah Finch
For the second time in their married life, the Finches found themselves living in a static caravan while they took on the dramatic transformation of their new home. However, on this occasion, there was extra time pressure as Hannah discovered she was pregnant just before they moved in. A trained building designer, she had started drawing up plans from the moment she saw the house and knew precisely how the layout should be re-configured. ‘I had in mind a more modern, open-plan feel to the ground floor and felt that a new extension replacing the old flimsy lean-to at the back of the dining room would give us more space,’ she explains.
