As we approach Lesbian Visibility Week and its crowning jewel, the DIVA Awards, there’s a matter of great importance weighing heavy on my mind. What on earth am I going to wear? I mean, we’re going to be more visible than ever, so I need to look good. Step in Sumissura, a clothing company specialising in made-to-measure tuxedos and suits, who have generously offered to dress Team DIVA in their finery. Designing our own outfits presents a real challenge for me, a Libra. I struggle choosing lunch – how am I supposed to pick a fabric from the 117 on offer? Concerning ourselves with sartorial matters might seem self-indulgent and trivial, with so much going on in the world. But it’s more than vanity – the clothes we wear and how we choose to present ourselves as womenloving women is important. Whether butch, femme or somewhere in the middle, how we look, and how we’re read, is a crucial part of our identities.
