SEBERG Directed by Benedict Andrews
DIVA fave Kristen Stewart stars in this stylish biopic of US actor Jean Seberg – America’s sweetheart and French New Wave darling – whose Hollywood career was cut short when she became an FBI target in the late 1960s. Stewart fires out another intense and compelling performance as the fearless actor who rebelled against her adoration, putting her support of the civil rights movement and her involvement with the Black Panthers ahead of her own career and personal safety, as she spirals out of favour with her family, the media and, most significantly, the FBI, who hound and humiliate her until she breaks. Slightly lacking the focus of its subject, consider this an intro to Seberg’s story, rather than the definitive retelling. In cinemas from 10 January
