As a fan of lesbianism and Shakespeare, in that order, I was overjoyed to see them combined in Russell T Davies’ BBC adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The final scene involves Titania, Queen of the Fairies, kissing Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, solidifying their couple status as Queens of the Magical Lesbians. Just when you think it can’t get any gayer, the pair sprout matching fairy wings and flutter away, presumably to start a fairy colony on Wonder Woman’s Island.
