Rachael Young’s Nightclubbing
I’ve recently been lucky enough to be on a British Council and Diversity Arts Australia programme, INTERSECT – an exchange between four diverse UK artists and four diverse Australian artists. It just so happens that, this time, all the artists are women, and three out of the eight are lesbians – including me, of course.
While we celebrated being able to talk and think and laugh and tire ourselves out imagining ways to change the cultural landscape of our two interlinked countries to better reflect the people who actually live there, we couldn’t help being appalled at the way diverse contributions to our cultures are erased in the historical record.
