Doctor Who and the BBC are closely identified with each other in a way very few TV shows and their networks are. For almost its entire life it’s been made by the BBC and premiered on its main TV channel. Compare this with an American show like Star Trek, which has had multiple homes for its different incarnations. Despite once being neglected by the BBC, Doctor Who is now one of its longest-running active brands, and full-size Daleks and TARDISes are familiar sights in the lobbies of various BBC buildings.
