Both sides of a brochure issued by Stanmark Productions in summer 1966 to promote their planned Doctor Who radio series starring Peter Cushing.
In November 1963, radio was still very nearly as big as television. With just three national BBC channels and a lone commercial rival in Radio Luxembourg, radio shows were a huge part of the daily routine and everyday conversation.
That’s probably why, in the week leading up to its first episode, the BBC pushed Doctor Who with a specially recorded radio trailer; broadcast on both the Light Programme and Home Service, it featured William Hartnell introducing the show. Sadly, this trailer is long lost, but it was the precursor to numerous overlooked adventures that took place beyond the small screen – together with interviews, documentaries, comedy sketches and Mitch Benn singing Call Me During Doctor Who and I’ll Kill You.
