THE RETURN OF THE TENTH DOCTOR & DONNA NOBLE

Eight years since their only full series together on TV, David Tennant and catherine Tate have reunited for a brand new series of Doctor who audio adventures....

There is still something intimate about having voices in your ears, I think, and allowing your imagination to fill in the pictures,” says David Tennant. “There’s something quite potent about that. We’re very fortunate in this country in that we have Radio 4, which is a wonderful resource for such things, and it uses a slightly different part of your brain. Obviously, it taps into your imagination. But it can be very seductive, audio drama. I love it. I listen to it a lot, and it takes you somewhere. It fires up a particularly emotive and exciting part of your brain.”

He glances at Catherine Tate, sat silently beside him, and grins. “Should I stop talking?”

It’s the middle of October 2015 – over seven years since the transmission of Tennant and Tate’s single full series of Doctor Who together as the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble – and the pair have reunited to recreate their roles on audio for Big Finish Productions.

Today is the second of three days in the studio, and as the actors sit down to speak to DWM, Catherine warns us that she is yet to read the following day’s script, Death and the Queen. “I haven’t even opened it yet,” she says, apologetically. “I’ll do it tonight. I don’t want it to...”

“You want it to be fresh,” David suggests, helpfully.

“I don’t want it to muddy this world,” nods Catherine, of today’s recording, Time Reaver. “That’s why I’m not reading it.”

“Your specificity is key,” David adds, grinning.

“I know,” Catherine agrees. “I’ve got to have clarity. If I’m muddling...”

“Your time zones?”
