Death and the Queen

Donna Noble just wants to get married – but it looks like a huge talking cloud and an army of skeletons might ruin her big day...

When we first met Donna Noble, in the closing moments of 2006’s Doomsday, she was about to get married to Lance Bennett, who was perfectly lovely– if you overlook the fact that he spent months systematically spiking Donna’s coffee to turn her into a human key and unleash a dormant race of man-eating alien spiders.

In 2008’s Forest of the Dead, Donna had married Lee, with whom she had children, and life was utterly idyllic – except that the children weren’t real, the entire world was a simulation, and in reality, Lee’s stutter prevented him from letting Donna know he truly existed.

It wasn’t until 2009-10’s The End of Time that she successfully settled down with Shaun Temple – but even then, her mind almost burned and her groom-to-be temporarily acquired John Simm’s face.

So when David Tennant, chatting to DWM about Death and the Queen, announces that “Donna finally gets her fairytale wedding”, we can’t help but be a little sceptical. “I mean, you know that when a story starts with Donna preparing for her fairytale wedding, it’s maybe not going to go exactly the way she’s planned,” he acknowledges. “But to say more than that would be to give it away!
