Of all the Doctor’s companions, there’s surely never been one as misunderstood as Adric. The brilliant, but awkward, teenager from Alzarius travelled with the Fourth and Fifth Doctors before meeting an explosive demise in 1982’s Earthshock. As shocking as his exit was, it’s fair to say not everyone was sad to see him go. Adric, played by Matthew Waterhouse, suffered from scripts that often made him look like a smug, know-it-all, and the young actor struggled to make him work.
