Your views on everything going on in the hectic world of Doctor Who…
Doctor Who returned on Easter Saturday with The Pilot, which introduced Pearl Mackie as the Doctor’s new companion Bill Potts. And of course, it got you all writing in…
DID THE PILOT FLY…?
■ PAUL BOWLER EMAIL What a great start to the series! The Pilot ticked all the right boxes; there were lots of fun references for fans to enjoy, but just as importantly the episode also provided a good jumping-on point for new viewers. Peter Capaldi was as superb as ever, Pearl Mackie made a great début as Bill Potts, and Matt Lucas was also great fun as Nardole. The Pilot made the Doctor Who universe feel fresh and invigorated again. One thing’s for sure, if the rest of this series is as good as this episode, we are going to be in for one hell of a final jaunt around the universe with Peter Capaldi’s Doctor!
■ JOHN HOOD EMAIL I rather enjoyed The Pilot. Peter Capaldi, Matt Lucas and Pearl Mackie make for a triumphant trio. A soft reboot – an amalgam of the Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat eras – done right.
■ SUZANNA CURD EMAIL What a stunning début from Pearl Mackie in The Pilot! She has brought a real freshness to the role of the companion, showing intelligence, curiosity, vulnerability and fear – and all in less than 50 minutes! Her introduction to the TARDIS is one of the best reactions I think I’ve seen. The expression on Pearl’s face was perfect.
■ BRIAN SILLIMAN NEW YORK I loved this first episode. Pearl Mackie is charming, funny, and very real. Matt Lucas is a fantastic addition to the cast, and Peter Capaldi remains absolute gobsmacking perfection. Best of all in this episode? New music from Murray Gold – the real Doctor Who champion!
