A new, animated version of the 1967 serial The Macra Terror is released on DVD and Blu-ray this month.

I remember seeing the surviving clips of The Macra Terror over the years, so I am really excited for this release. If missing stories can’t be found, animation is the next best thing! The BBC did an excellent job with The Power of the Daleks back in 2016 and Shada in 2017.

Well, there is such a thing as Macra now, they’re just animated! I was lucky enough to see the last two animations at screenings. What a strange time we live in where I can sit among an audience and hear laughter in reaction to the late Patrick Troughton’s antics as if he were a brand-new Doctor and we were watching the latest episode! And what a wonderful surprise it was to find a present-day Tom Baker at the end of Shada. (My audience was certainly surprised – one older man at the back cried out in joy upon seeing Tom with the scarf on again!) Thank you to all those responsible for creating these animations. Do please keep them coming. PS: The Daleks’ Master Plan?

I am thrilled about the release of the animated version of The Macra Terror, and I cannot wait for its release in the US.
My seven-year-old daughter absolutely loves The Power of the Daleks, and in particular the character of Polly, so she’ll be so excited to get to see more of her adventures with the Second Doctor. I hope there’s enough support for these animated stories to continue, as they will make my young Doctor Who fan happy!
