In the 1970s Jon Pertwee was one of the most famous faces on television – and not just because he played the Third Doctor. Jon’s son, actor Sean Pertwee, reflects on an unusual childhood and a lasting legacy.

“I’ve got to be honest, it’s very strange doing this. I’m listening to myself on the headphones and I can just hear him.” It’s a warm evening in May and Sean Pertwee is at the BBC’s New Broadcasting House in central London, a stone’s throw from where his father began his career in wireless comedy in the 1930s. He’s here to narrate The Jon Pertwee Files, a new radio documentary marking Jon Pertwee’s centenary year, and throughout the session the shadow of the Third Doctor looms large.
