Last issue Doctor Who Magazine marked the centenary of Jon Pertwee’s birth and 50 years since he was cast as the Third Doctor. Continuing those celebrations, here are some more of your memories of Jon…

MIKE MULLIGAN EMAIL Jon Pertwee is my favourite Doctor. I very much enjoyed reading the transcript in

DWM 540 of Jon’s interview at the very first Doctor Who convention, which was held in 1977. It reminded me of the only time I saw the great man in person, in 1984 at the Liverpool Garden Festival.

It was a glorious summer, and you can imagine my surprise when, while walking around the festival grounds with my girlfriend, we chanced upon Mr Pertwee in full Worzel Gummidge make-up, muttering about where “Aunt Sally” had got to and “slices of cake”! I wished I could have told him how much I enjoyed his performance as the Third Doctor, but thought that, as he was engaged for a different performance that day, he would not appreciate it.

MARK SCOTT CHIPPENHAM I took a photograph of Jon Pertwee on 27 April 1996 at what must have been his last convention appearance in the UK. At the location – Aldbourne, Wiltshire – Jon popped in to say goodbye to the attendees and his fellow guests before travelling home.
