BAPTISM OF FIRE
Douglas Camfield is widely regarded as one of Doctor Who’s finest directors. He’s just as renowned for the military way he organised his productions. Camfield had done national service with the Royal Army Service Corps as an offi then transferred to the West Yorkshire Regiment as a reservist. He applied to join the Special Air Service (SAS), part of British Special Forces, in the 1950s, but had to pull out when he broke his ankle during training.
