Z arbi movement presented a still greater challenge for regular Dalek operator Robert Jewell, encased in tight fibreglass pieces constructed by prop makers Shawcraft Regular ants have a long tail to balance their bodies – but, as Jewell told the 1980s fanzine DWB: “When they made the costumes for us to wear we found that the tails were too long and we couldn’t stand up – we had to do everything bent over!” Fellow sufferer Kevin Manser explained that “you couldn’t see properly. We’d be running along those rostrums, fall over and finish up with our legs in the air and we couldn’t get up! It was terrible…”
