Doctor Who emerged from the television wilderness to regain its place as the country’s best-loved drama in the space of less than three years.
The pace of this transformation was bewildering. By the time the series was joined by Doctor Who Confidential, Totally Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, I remember feeling that there was now more Doctor Who than I would ever have time to watch. There was certainly more merchandise than I would possibly be able to collect,
as toy shops and even supermarkets embraced a staggering array of items bearing the show’s distinctive orange-and-black logo.
