The interior of the Thirteenth Doctor’s TARDIS.
I first had the chance to visit the set of a Doctor Who episode in 2018, when Series 11 was in production at the BBC’s Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff . I’d been on film and television sets before, both in a professional capacity and simply as an admirer, but this promised to be a unique experience. I’d been watching this series since I was a child - a certain frisson was surely inevitable
Setting foot in the TARDIS control room was quite overwhelming, even though I was initially bemused to find a number of custard creams on the floor by the console. Gazing at the elaborate walls it was difficult to imagine how this strange new place would appear on screen once the ethereal lighting was applied.
There was no such confusion when I examined some of the sets for the episode Rosa, which were meticulous recreations of mid-50s Alabama. The attention to detail was remarkable.
