Dolls House and Miniature Scene  |  July 2017 (Iss 278)
Welcome to the July issue
We’ve themed some of the content in this issue around the USA, with a fantastic feature looking at a technologically advanced collection in Times Square, New York. Gulliver’s Gate is an immersive, interactive display of 300 small-scale scenes that spans over 49,000 square-feet, that’s a full city block-wide of miniatures! Page 41. Popular contributor Ruth Flewelling Lesbirel fi nds inspiration in an old black and white family photograph to create a ladder back rocking chair ideal for any American themed diorama. Page 10.
And that’s not all, our team of talented artisans will show you how to crochet a blackwork sampler, use Plaster of Paris to create a shabby chic shelf and strips of rice paper to make a bunch of Gerbera’s plus much more!
Can I mention Christmas in July? Yes of course I can! Especially if it’s a competition and there are prizes up for grabs! This month sees the launch of ‘A Miniaturist Christmastime’, our very own Christmas themed competition. Open to UK miniaturists, I want to see your miniature scenes, dolls, characters, houses and room boxes and in whatever scale you prefer. Feel free to create from scratch or use kits and shop bought items to create a miniature masterpiece. Just remember, the only limitation is your imagination! More details about the competition can be found on page 13.
