WINTER 1973
George Lucas sits down to tap away at a script outline. Titled ‘Journal Of The Whills’, it begins with some soon-to-be-abandoned lore: “This is the story of Mace Windy, a revered Jedi-bendu of Ophuchi, as related to us by C.J. Thorpe, padawaan learner to the famed Jedi.” The first Star Wars character ever to be named on paper, Mace was put to one side but not forgotten. C.J., on the other hand, was consigned to the dustiest room in the Jedi archives (though she might just have inspired the name of a West Wing character).
