OUT EARLY 2022
By order of the Peaky Blinders — Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, MP and head of Birmingham’s ruthless gangster dynasty.
WHEN LAST WE saw Peaky Blinders’ original gangster, the right honourable Tommy Shelby MP (Cillian Murphy), he was stumbling wildly into a mistshrouded field, bellowing his grief and grinding the barrel of a pistol into his head. After a particularly dark few episodes, it was a climax that ended the show’s fifth season on the bleakest, most uncertain note yet. And then the pandemic hit, leaving Tommy’s fate dangling for two-and-a-half years.
“If we’d known that, we probably wouldn’t have done it!” laughs series director Anthony Byrne. “There was going to be a definitive end, but myself, Cillian and [writer] Steven [Knight] felt like Season 5 was part one of two, so we wanted to end it on a cliffhanger. It just turned out to be a very extended cliffhanger.”
