A plus-size teenager in a sunny Spanish village is brutally bullied by her peers, who call her ‘Piggy’. When a serial killer rolls into town, things turn into an unlikely Bonnie-and-Clyde-style tale of bloody vengeance. But it’s never quite so straightforward, with neat spins on horror/ thriller tropes, and bullying in the first act that is genuinely distressing, built on the rocks of twitchy-curtained mistrust (“This town is full of spite,” one character spits). Director Carlota Pereda adapts her own 2018 short film, and sometimes it shows, occasionally feeling like it’s stalling for time. But the film is extremely well shot, with some sharp themes and a brave, soul-baring central performance from newcomer Laura Galán.
