34th SUNDERLAND HARRIERS OPEN Farringdon Community College, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear SUNDERLAND HARRIERS regained their title in the men’s relay, Les Venmore reports.
Sunderland finished fourth on leg one through Steve Rankin and moved up a place on the second leg through Kevin Jeffress.
Michael Barker took the lead on the third leg with the in-form Steve McMahon anchoring their team to victory. Durham City finished 31 seconds behind in second with Morpeth taking third.
Durham led on the first two legs through Dan Jenkin and Jonathan Wilkinson, with Jenkin clocking the fastest overall time.
Birtley dominated the senior women’s race with teenager Sophie Burnett edging ahead of clubmate Chloe Price. Alice Smith finished third ahead of 2015 winner Georgia Campbell and Lisa Short, who was the leading veteran.
