ASHA IS DELIGHTED
FORMER TEEN PRODIGY MAKES FIRST OLYMPICS
100m

After missing Beijing 2008 and London 2012, Asha Philip has secured selection for her first Olympic Games in the 100m
FEW athletes looked so happy and relieved to win their event and qualify as Asha Philip. Then again, given the trials and tribulations she has endured in her career, it is understandable.
After becoming the first British female to win a global sprint title at the World Youth Championships in 2007, she ruptured her cruciate ligament in her knee in a trampoline accident and barely raced for three years. It meant she missed the 2008 Olympics and then narrowly missed out on selection for London 2012 despite living just a mile from the Olympic Stadium.
