Green light given for Midleton doubling as work starts on extra platform
AN Bord Pleanála approved the railway order to allow the 10km Glounthane to Midleton line to be double tracked throughout. The order granted on October 26 gives Iarnród Eireann powers to double seven kilometres of single track line which reopened in July 2009, close one level crossing and widen the Owenacurra river overbridge outside Midleton station, as well as track and signalling alternations. Work is due to start in the new year and when completed will allow a 10-minute frequency to be introduced as part of the Cork Area Commuter Rail programme.
