Tanni, born with spina bifida, discovered her love of sport at school, and by the age of 13 she had settled on wheelchair racing. In 1984, during her last year as a junior athlete, she won the Welsh junior national title over 100m, and by the age of 17 had become part of the British Wheelchair Racing squad.
