T-POSED MECH The aim here was to design a functional-looking robot with personality – ready for rigging
This is the first stage of a new series looking at developing a VFX shot. There are many ways to undertake this process, but seeing as I’m doing it as a one-man-band type of project, I thought starting with the CG hero would be fun.
I have an idea of the final shot, so with a sketch in hand I took to Cinema 4D, as that’s where I can work fastest for this kind of job. The idea is to build a mech that could just as easily be piloted by a human, probably used for agricultural or industrial purposes. I wanted a look that was functional but not overly sharp. Something that looks pleasing and also has a little personality to it, hence the cameras/lights that could function as eyes.
