WESTJET IS acquiring three additional Boeing 737 MAX 8s from lessor SMBC Aviation Capital, in addition to six of the type the carrier announced would be joining its fleet earlier in the year. The airline said the acquisition of nine leased MAX aircraft in the last six months would allow it to bolster its plan for fleet growth, while managing delays for new aircraft to arrive. It also said cabins on the new aircraft will be updated in the coming months to align with the rest of the fleet.
