This Edwardian emerald, pearl and diamond pendant by Carrington & Co, London (left) sold for £24,500 (estimate £6000-10,000) to an online bidder at Stacey’s (20% buyer’s premium) in Rayleigh on March 20. The central heart-shaped old-cut stone weighs 3.5cts and was given a colour grade of K/L and a VS clarity.
A similar sum was bid for an Edwardian sapphire and diamond brooch (below) at Mallams Oxford (20% buyer’s premium) on March 29. The cushionshaped mixed-cut sapphire (probably from one of the mines in India, Sri Lanka and Burma that were operating during the late 19th and early 20th centuries) is set within a double border of graduated old-cut diamonds.
