Established in London in 1735, jeweller Garrard has had a long association with the British Royal family.
In 1843 it was appointed by Queen Victoria as Crown Jewellers. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of this warrant in 1993, Garrard produced a limited edition of 150 silver cased mantel clocks.
Number 90 of this group was included in the 47 clocks on offer at Toovey’s (24.5% buyer’s premium) sale of Horological and Related Items on 18 May. It had a twin fusée movement striking on a bell and the pierced silver gilt dial with silvered chapter ring was inscribed Garrard Crown Jewellers 1843-1993. It sold for £1700.
