Sold for £400 on July 5 by Forum Auctions (25/20/12% buyer’s premium), as part of an online sale of cricket books, was one of just 50 specially bound copies of The Catch: A Correspondence by Harold Pinter and Alan Wilkinson.
Published in 2003, printed by the Evergreen Press and signed by both authors, it concerns a catch taken by Pinter, standing at second slip, in a match played in 1997 between the Gaieties Cricket Club and Paul Getty’s XI at the Getty family’s Buckinghamshire home at Wormsley Park.
A long run of Wisdens offered by Charterhouse (20% buyer’s premium) on July 28 included two famously scarce issues of the early 20th century – those for 1918 and 1919. In the original gilt-lettered, brown cloth bindings they sold at £2400 and £1800 respectively.
