Stephen Walters is a maritime expert who has acted as a consultant to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich – the largest task being to design and part-curate the William Bligh bicentenary exhibition in 1989.
He also worked on the 1984 film Mutiny on the Bounty starring Sir Anthony Hopkins as Captain Bligh, on which he advised on the construction of the $4m replica Bounty.
Based in the south Midlands, Walters’ first tranche of his thousands-strong collections of nautical and maritime pieces, built up over 50 years, sold as a single-owner sale at Bonhams Knightsbridge in 1989, with the second at JS Fine Art Auctioneers in Banbury 18 months ago.
