The discovery of this teabowl and saucer by Salisbury auction house Woolley & Wallis brings to nine the number of recorded pieces of porcelain by the John Bartlam factory in Cain Hoy, South Carolina. The pioneering North American factory shot to prominence last year when a teapot, minus its cover, was bought by the Metropolitan Museum of Art for £460,000.
