A STRIKING win against a Claremont side who have chalked up some impressive results this season saw Red Star progress to the last 32 of the West of Scotland Cup.
Heavy rain on Saturday December 10 made the Ropework surface tricky. However, both teams were keen to get their passing game going early. It was Star that managed to gain the upper hand early on, with the pace and trickery of Lee MacLean and Ciaran McPhie drawing some early fouls from the visitors’ midfield.
After going close with a couple of efforts, Star deservedly took the lead after 22 minutes when Neil Russell beat the offside trap. His initial effort was smothered by the keeper and the ball fell to Rab Docherty, before placing his shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box for 1-0.
