CONCERNS have been raised over the quality of construction in Scottish schools after defects were found in dozens of schools across 15 council areas, including Argyll and Bute.
A recent BBC investigation into school buildings uncovered that construction defects were found in 72 schools across the though.’ country. In January last year, 17 schools in the capital were closed following a wall collapse at Oxgangs Primary in Edinburgh, which sparked outrage and an investigation into the construction of Scottish schools.
Five Argyll and Bute schools were found to be defective and were subjected to a series of inspections and surveys last year. In response to the discovery of the defects, the council stated visual and intrusive surveys of the council’s school buildings identified that remedial works were required to fix defective wall and header ties.
