Electronic shock collars, which deliver painful electric shocks to dogs, have been banned by the Scottish Government after a campaign which had its roots on Arran.
The collars, used for ‘aversive training’ rather than positive re-inforcement, were the subject of government consultations in 2016 but which only resulted in regulating their use. However, after carefully considering the concerns raised about electronic ‘training’ collars, the government has now announced an immediate and effective ban on their use in Scotland.
Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham said: ‘Causing pain to dogs by inappropriate training methods is clearly completely unacceptable and I want there to be no doubt that painful or unpleasant training for dogs will not be tolerated.
