Arran farmers put on another splendid show

It nearly stayed dry for the Arran Farmers’ Society show this year … nearly, but not quite.

The Clan stunt cycle team had just launched into their second show of the day when the first spots of rain could be felt. In 10 minutes it was teeming down and showing no signs of going off any time soon.

But the rain could not spoil what had been a fantastic day at Glenkiln Farm in Lamlash for the 182nd annual show. Sheep entries were up and there were plenty of cows, unfortunately no horses.

The first reported case of strangles on Arran, one of the most common equine diseases in horses in the UK, followed by a series of unforseen circumstances, led to the postponement of the horse and showjumping events, although it is hoped to hold them at a later date.
