Lack of talks leads to ire over swings

While many will be angered at the loss of swings across the island owing to budget cuts – especially in light of the recent toilets debacle – it is interesting that a lack of consultation has played such a large part in this anger.

There is a deep-seated belief that prior to Arran having two councillors representing the island, Arran’s interests were not given due consideration, nor were any decisions guided by local knowledge and wisdom, which has contributed to the mire.

The old adage that knowledge is power might ring true when allowing people to feel part of the decision making process, and empowerment through knowledge and participation might even alleviate some of that anger. It might also curtail the proliferation of rumour and assumptions which can be so damaging and counterproductive.
