The January meeting of the Friends of Brodick Castle was held in the castle tearoom and they were delighted to welcome Faye Water-low from the Isle of Arran Distillery, especially as she brought along a 14-yearold malt and Arran Gold for members to sample.
Faye has been at the distillery for 20 years and her experience showed in her most informative and interesting talk. She started with the three ways to taste a whisky. First, one should look at the colour, which is obtained purely from the cask in which the whisky is stored. Arran Distillery does not add any colouring agents and its whiskies are also unpeated.
The second is to smell the whisky and finally to taste a small sip.
