Disruption on ferry crossing

Arran was battered by the first Arctic storms of 2017 this week, causing widespread ferry disruption.

The Arctic airmass coming from the north-west across the island brought intense winds and gales that also caused driving difficulties with roads badly flooded and householders checking for damage to their properties.

The three-day blizzard caused widespread disruption from Tuesday with ferries being cancelled except for a single Brodick to Ardrossan return. With winds gusting at more than 60mph, all sailings were halted on Wednesday with recorded gusts of over 71mph inland. At the time of going to press, the first sailing after the disruption was anticipated to be from Brodick on Thursday at 8.20am.
