Saving the day

Residents of Bearsden and Milngavie, who had been without water for a week, were on Wednesday told they could drink their water again, thanks to Machrie company Filtec Water Solutions.

Water filtration expertise has been an Arran export for a long time, based initially on sand from the mouth of Rosa Burn. In 1995, Billy Smith of Machrie decided to set out on his own.

He now has more than 25 employees who travel to sites all over the UK and, as was shown this week, they are respected as troubleshooters.
