Sir, With reference to Carol Vells-Boyle’s letter in the Banner of the amount of litter scattered in the ver ges on our island, I have also noticed this problem. I have also noticed an increase in this after holiday weekends, holidays related to school breaks, anything which coincides with an in influx of visitors to the island, which seems to bring on the menace of fish and chip papers appearing in the verges. This is not a mere coincidence as I have regularly spotted this.
I wonder if CalMac could put up notices on the ferries asking people who visit Arran to respect our island and deposit their litter in the bins provided. It might be worth a try.
Yours, Myra Young, Whiting Bay.
