Arran residents are being warned to be aware of the latest scam that has seen Lamlash resident Mark Johnson conned out of thousands of pounds.
The entirely plausible scam followed on from a call to his internet service provider complaining about a reduction in his internet speed.
Coincidentally, the following day Mark received a call from a person purporting to be from BT Openreach who spoke him through a series of ‘online tests’ to determine the fault.
Mark said: ‘I am not very tech savvy but the tests seemed to reveal that there was a problem regarding my internet connection, something that the caller said they would rectify and, owing to the inconvenience, would also provide a refund for.
‘I graciously accepted the refund, having experienced a large amount of downtime. However, an error occurred during the refund process and I was told that I was overpaid.
