With major technological changes to the way that we listen to and purchase music, North Ayrshire libraries are moving with the times and embracing modern technologies.
Having evolved from vinyl, to CDs, to MP3s, North Ayrshire libraries will now be adopting digital technologies and will offer a free online music streaming service.
With the decline of the number of CDs being borrowed and because of the transition towards digital music, all libraries, including Arran, will no longer update their CD collection and will instead focus on their online offering.
Music in their current catalogue will still be available for members but new purchases in CD format will no longer take place.
Councillor Louise Mc- Phater, cabinet member for communities, said: ‘The way we listen to music has changed dramatically in recent years, particularly with the explosion in online music streaming services.
