I’m here to stay, vows new police sergeant on island

Arran’s new police sergeant has vowed to see out the rest of his career on the island.

But Dougie Robertson felt he was a man with no name when he first took up the full-time post in November, replacing acting sergeant Allen Gow.

‘Are you the new sergeant?’ was how Douglas found himself repeatedly greeted but he says: ‘It is not really surprising that everyone wants to know who I am.’

Sgt Roberson has now been here three months and is gradually finding his feet. He describes Arran as ‘a place I am really fond of’ and has spent many holidays here hillwalking with his family over the years.
