There was a record entry in this year’s Lamlash Burns Club annual primary school drawing and painting competition, showing interest in the national bard is alive and well on Arran.
The theme this year was ‘a scene from Tam o’Shanter’ and youngsters from all over the island put their imagination to good use in coming up with a total of 166 weird and wonderful entries.
Club secretary Andrew Martin visited Shiskine Primary School last week to award the winner with her prizes. Receiving a limited edition book and numbered medal, a certificate featuring her painting and the prize money was P5 pupil Heather Beeton who, true to the theme, painted Tam on his horse Meg being chased by a witch. Heather said: ‘I thought my talented friend might win it. I never thought it could be me. I’m very pleased.’
