Artistic talent on show at Brodick art exhibition

Arran Active, which regularly exhibits the works of artists in its upstairs gallery at its shop in Brodick, is currently hosting the works of two artists.

They are Heather MacLeod from Whiting Bay and Peter Ribbeck from West Kilbride whose photography work often brings him to, and features Arran as a subject. Heather, who is well-known on Arran as a harp player and Gaelic singer of considerable talent, is also renowned for her Steampunk art. The steampunk genre is an aesthetic inspired by 19th century steam and mechanical designs and Heather, who is a fan of fantasy and science fiction, reflects this in her art. She said: ‘As a musician I have always been fascinated by the beautiful shapes of instruments. My steampunk creations incorporate instruments, clock bits, engine parts, copper and brass, anything with an interesting shape and contour.
